What is Podiatry?
Lower limb Podiatric biomechanics is the study of the functioning of the hip down to the foot. Podiatrists are trained to understand the relationship between the hip, femur, knee, tibia, ankle and the foot. A biomechanical assessment can determine if the foot mechanics are predisposing to the relevant lower limb problem. If so, then various types of insoles (orthotics) are manufactured to the individuals needs to reduce/alleviate the pain/problem.
What are Orthotics?
Orthotics are devices that fit into the shoe that support or correct abnormal foot posture or positioning. There are two main categories of orthotics:
