Julie graduated in 2000 and after completing her first job at Barnsley District Hospital, the lure of foreign travel got the better of her and she spent some time in Australia. On her return, Julie relocated to Newcastle where she began to specialise in musculoskeletal physiotherapy. She ran clinics within GP surgeries, occupational health and provided first line treatment to the Northumbria and Durham University rugby teams. Julie couldn’t keep away from Sheffield for too long and her return in 2004 turned out to be a long-term move. Following a further 12 months of NHS experience in Rotherham, Julie started to work privately which led her to The Physios in 2005. Julie now enjoys full-time work at the practice treating all musculoskeletal disorders. She has also maintained her expertise with Occupational Health work and regularly undertakes Display Screen Equipment and Work Place Assessments.
Julie has a special interest in Pilates exercise and how this enables patients to recover more effectively from episodes of back pain particularly. “It is all about helping patients to control their movement without pain – not just getting them to tighten their core!” says Julie. “The concept is often misunderstood and helping people recovery from injury is best left to the experts!” Julie is qualified to teach pre/post natal Pilates (APPI accredited) and is a qualified acupuncturist.
