Soft Tissue Techniques
Soft tissue techniques (such as trigger point and soft tissue release, deep connective tissue massage and muscle energy techniques) have long been part of physiotherapy practice and have evolved and diversified over the years so that now they are used to treat many different conditions. This ‘hands-on’ approach utilises tactile contact on tissues with the aim of normalising their function and reducing pain providing an important component of overall physiotherapy treatment. The more superficial tissues like muscles and fascia are commonly treated but equally important are tendons and ligaments that are often the source of pain.
